CLEVELAND, Ohio, August 29, 2011 –Team Northeast Ohio (Team NEO) announced today the election of 13 regional business leaders as additional trustees to oversee Team NEO’s new responsibilities in strengthening regional collaboration and advancing Northeast Ohio’s economy.

As one of six JobsOhio network partners across the state, Team NEO will operate the JobsOhio regional office in Northeast Ohio. In addition to Team NEO’s role of marketing the region and attracting new businesses, it will facilitate the development of a regional economic strategy, increase collaboration among the region’s key economic development groups and assist companies and communities that are seeking support from JobsOhio for growth and job creation.

“Northeast Ohio is making progress in many areas that will benefit all of us,” said Ward J. “Tim” Timken, Jr., chairman of The Timken Company and chairman of the board of Team NEO. “We look forward to taking on these new roles for Team NEO and building on the region’s momentum. The Team NEO name is more appropriate than ever.”

Ten key economic development organizations, all of which are now represented on the Team NEO board, will form a core network and play leading roles in implementing a regional economic strategy. They include the region’s major metropolitan chambers of commerce and economic development boards – the Greater Akron Chamber, the Greater Cleveland Partnership and the Commission on Economic Inclusion, Stark Development Board, Team Lorain County and Youngstown-Warren Regional Chamber – and regional specialists in economic development: BioEnterprise, JumpStart, MAGNET and NorTech. This group, along with the Fund for Our Economic Future and the Cleveland Foundation, will meet regularly to identify new opportunities and ways to use the region’s resources to advance strategic priorities.

According to Waltermire, the new board members will help to ensure a regional focus, while bringing expertise and leadership from an array of industries and services. Designated Team NEO board members, who also serve on the boards of major economic development organizations (listed in the previous paragraph), will serve as liaisons to those boards. The CEOs of these organizations have been named ex-officio special trustees of Team NEO.

“Team NEO is about driving economic results and inclusion. The addition of these board members expands our reach and our network of impact,” said Waltermire. “Moving our region forward in economic development, competitiveness and job creation is our central focus. The Team NEO board will play the lead role in that effort.”
