Snap-On building new HQ in Cleveland Plus Region

"Northeast Ohio is a rich area for highly educated technical labor," company spokesman David Foutz said Wednesday. ''And our business grew here and started here in the mid '80s. This is home for us and we always preferred to stay here.''

Snap-On Business Solutions will break ground Monday for a $16 million worldwide headquarters in the Kinross Lakes Office Park in Richfield, midway between Cleveland and Akron. The new headquarters — across from the current facility — should open in October 2009.  The company, a division of Snap-On Inc. in Kenosha, Wis., expects to employ 350 to 400 at the site.

The company is consolidating offices in Richfield and Wooster into the new 105,000-square-foot facility and plans to boost its work force by at least 50 employees over the next three years.

Snap-On, a data software firm in the automotive and power equipment markets, had considered other sites in Ohio and outside the state, but decided to stay in Richfield.

Both local and state governments are helping with the project. The Summit County Port Authority is issuing $16.5 million in bonds for the company. The village is providing tax incremental financing to help with land and project costs.
