    Northeast Ohio’s biomedical industry has surpassed pre-recession levels to become a $5.6 billion sector in 2014, reports Team NEO's quarterly Cleveland Plus Economic Review. The sector grew 59% from 2000 to 2014 while other industries remained relatively flat.

  3. Greater Cleveland and Canton gaining, not losing, jobs newly released data show

    The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) yesterday released its most reliable source of jobs data, the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW), for the quarter ending September 2013. It shows that the 18-county Northeast Ohio region gained an average of more than 9,900 jobs in Q3 2013, marking the 13th consecutive quarter of year-over-year job growth. The Greater Cleveland area gained an average of almost 7,000 jobs from Q3 2012 to Q3 2013. During the same period, Canton gained an average of more than 2,300 jobs followed by Akron with 862. Youngstown lost, on average, fewer than 600 jobs.

    Wooster, Ohio took top honors in Site Selection Magazine's recent rankings for micropolitans with more corporate facility projects than any other small-town area in the US. A total of six micropolitans in Northeast Ohio were ranked out of more than 500 small-town areas. In addition, the Cleveland-Elyria MSA and Youngstown-Warren-Boardman MSA received honors in the metropolitan rankings. Ohio was number two in number of projects and projects per capita.

    Northeast Ohio’s 2012 export activity reached $31 billion, exceeding pre-recession levels, reports the quarterly Cleveland Plus Economic Review released today by Team NEO. From 2009 to 2012 exports increased 34%, exceeding the rate of US exports, which improved 26% over the same time period.
